After spending 18 years in health care in several jobs ranging from hospital orderly to clinical laboratory supervisor to executive director of the largest private pathology group in the United States, Mr. Bowles became an entrepreneur. In 1983, he founded the Bowles Investment Group, Inc. (B.I.G., Inc.)which specialized in health care/general business consulting and multi-media development. The organization represented buyers/sellers in more than $3.5 million of corporate acquisitions/mergers and prepared a 5-year business plan for a $4 million a year automotive aftermarket firm to develop more than 35 franchises in the Rocky Mountain Region. In addition, B.I.G., Inc. has been used as a holding company for businesses including: a mobile nuclear medicine and ultrasound company, a large executive office suite, 2 restaurants, a clinical laboratory, and record production company. While working as a consultant, Mr. Bowles began teaching management, marketing, finance, and economics at the undergraduate and graduate college-level for several schools in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he developed several courses that are delivered on television and through the Internet. After 8 ½ years as adjunct faculty in business administration at Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC), Mr. Bowles became a full-time faculty member in 1997 and Department Chair for Business and Real Estate in 2006. Because of his entrepreneurial background, he quickly began to specialize in small business courses and has been a member of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) of Colorado Springs Advisory Board representing PPCC. Mr. Bowles has been a member of the Board of Directors of Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado since 2002. He is the author of several professional papers on medical group management, business planning, co-authored a textbook on the financial management of medical groups and has been a contributing author on several business textbooks for 3 major publishers. Recently, he has developed a particularly strong interest in the potential of small business development in the international arena while working with the International Business Education Program at PPCC. This interest has led to visits and studies throughout Europe, Russia (where he presented a paper to the Russian Business Educators Conference), Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
